Inside the Rolls Royce Phantom VIII

Inside the Rolls Royce Phantom VIII

For me, there's only one name in luxury cars - and that's Rolls Royce.

Punters will always argue over their favourite sports-cars. Who's to say whether a Lamborghini truly trumps a Ferrari, or an Aston Martin, or Maserati? We could, of course, go on...

But Rolls Royce are the ultimate in elegant motoring, and the Rolls Royce Phantom VIII is the ultimate Rolls Royce.

In this article, we'll take you through the history and take you under the hood of this ultra-comfortable automobile. I'd love to say that it's going to be a bumpy ride - but it's not. It's going to be a very smooth ride indeed.

History of the Phantom

Before the Phantom, there was the Silver Ghost - which, as you may have guessed, the name "Phantom" is a nod towards.

The Ghost was, even for it's time, extraordinarily quiet, and nothing changed with the introduction of the first Phantom in 1925. It boasted a larger engine and pushrod-operated overhead valves - a marked improvement from the side valves of the Silver Ghost.

For almost the entirety of the next century, Rolls Royce continued to improve it's Phantoms, producing small volumes of exceptionally well-built (hand-built, in fact) limousines.

Anyone can buy a Rolex - but not just anyone has a Phantom. It became perhaps the ultimate sign of class, famously owned by Fred Astaire (Phantom I) and John Lennon (Phantom V) amongst others.

OK - let's fast forward a couple of iterations. It's been a while since 1925, and the Phantom is now in it's eighth edition.

So what remains the same?

Firstly, you'll note that 'The Spirit of Ecstasy' remains - the iconic hood ornament of the Rolls Royce is as present now as it ever was, having been featured on every generation of the Phantom.

Secondly, the Rolls Royce commitment to the 'Silent Sanctuary' continues. State of the art soundproofing ensure that the cabin of the Phantom is serenely quiet compared to any other car.

And finally, imposing presence, reversing coach doors and iconic grille make it instantly recognisable and highly coveted among luxury car enthusiasts.

The Best Rolls Royce Ever

But, if you think Rolls Royce are cashing in on the same old car year after year, you're very mistaken.

The Phantom VIII is a pinnacle of engineering excellence. Exclusively available with a twin-turbocharged 6.75-litre V12 engine, with a top speed of 155mph and a 0-60 in 5.3 seconds.

In short - it's power is effortless.

Despite its classic design, the Phantom VIII is equipped with state-of-the-art technology features to enhance the driving experience.

Advanced infotainment systems, driver assistance technologies, double-glazed windows... You name it, and if it's luxury, the Phantom VIII will already have it.

Time and time again, Rolls Royce has continuously set the standard for elegance and refinement in motoring. The Rolls Royce Phantom VIII stands as a testament to the enduring legacy of luxury and sophistication that the brand embodies.
